The Experience
J. Denman
If not for the Shenzhen program I never would have had the opportunity to do and see what I have. I remember my time in China every day, and really cherish those memories. I find myself missing my school, students, and fellow teachers.
A. Morse
Thanks everyone for the friendship and stability you provided while we were in China. Good luck to all!
  • Processing fee
There is no fee for application. Upon acceptance to the program a $200 processing fee is due; payment of that fee locks your place in the program. The processing fee is 50% refundable until March 31, 2009.

  • Program fee Benefits
The program fee is $2000. The program fee now includes required medical insurance, Chinese entry visa, the August training course (tuition, housing, tours and TEFL textbook), and the train ticket for travel from Beijing to Shenzhen with the group. In addition you will receive a work permit/residence card, Shenzhen salary of 5,000RMB per month, housing and utilities in Shenzhen, a travel bonus, and reimbursement for airline tickets (see below). These are equivalent to $15,000 in total benefits. The program fee is due July 1, 2009.

  • Chinese language courses in Shenzhen
The Chinese language courses take place in Shenzhen on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, at a central location and taught by Shenzhen University faculty. Your school will arrange your teaching schedule to leave those two afternoons free. In Shenzhen, the Fall semester Chinese language course is required; the Spring semester course is optional. Tuition for Fall (required) and Spring (optional) is $250 per semester, deducted from the airline ticket reimbursement.

  • Reimbursement of roundtrip airline ticket
The program provides coordinated reservation service for the purchase of your roundtrip airline ticket to Beijing and return from Hong Kong or Guangzhou. Your reimbursement will be half in February 2010, after you begin the Spring semester, and half at the end of your contract in June 2010.

  • Deferral of student loans
You will be eligible to apply for deferral of payment of student loans on the basis of limited income in China.
